PADGHAM & PUTLAND LTD
Padgham and Putland Ltd online jewellery store Art of Charms and Pendants als
Established in 1984 by Carl Padgham and Andrew Putland, both graduates from Medway College of Design. Working from their own premises in the village of Pluckley in the heart of the Kent countryside, famous for the author H.E. Bates, "The Darling Buds of May".
Padgham and Putland in the early years, worked mainly as outworkers to the established Silver trade. During this time they showed that their craftsmanship in new pieces was of a high standard. During the following years Padgham and Putland built up a loyal relationship with a few trade companies, private societies and individuals. They were invited on to some exciting design and restoration projects which were through the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. One of these was the Lichfield Cathedral Collection. An elegant flagon, the lid topped with a delicately chased finial, echoing the carved roof bosses, the body subtly formed to reflect the central columnar structure.
About the same time the partners were working on a pair of large altar candlesticks to replace a stolen pair of Omar Ramsden sticks. Luckily there were photographs of the originals (as the church wished to replace with as accurate as possible), and with the help from the Goldsmiths Company were able to use original casting patterns that been used to make the first ones.
The largest and most prestigious work Padgham and Putland have been involved with was the Church 2000 commission from Bvlgari the Italian jewellers. This was to design and make forty pieces of Church Plate for the Vatican, for a new church, the Dio Padro Misericordioso in Rome, designed by Richard Meier. On completion of the project the partners alongside Nicola Bulgari presented the work to Pope John Paul II in the Vatican.
This is a small insight into the commissions they produced over the years.
In 2009 Padgham and Putland have designed and made in 11kg of solid silver a mace for Imperial College London . see link .
